VCDS runs on any modern computer running Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 (all can be either 32 or 64 bit). VCDS can be installed along side other software without causing any problems, so can be used on PCs or laptops running other diagnostic tools. It is also compatible with touch screen tablets, laptops and desktop PCs

To use VCDS you'll a need a modern laptop computer. VCDS will run on most laptops made in the last 8 years, but I've put the specific details below

  • You'll need a Laptop, Netbook or Tablet PC (a desktop is OK, but I recommend a laptop as some procedures require the car to be driven)
  • It needs to be running Windows 7, 8, 10 or Windows 11 (32 or 64 bit) (Not Windows S)
  • It needs at least 2gb ram, and 300mb hard disc space (VCDS takes up very little room and the log files it creates are small text files typically the size of a single email so hard disc size is not a problem)
  • The screen size should be at least 1024 x 768 or more
  • And it will need at least 1 USB Port. I recommend one with the USB port on the right hand side so that when you put the laptop on the passenger seat the cable faces the front of the car

These are quite basic requirements and any laptop made in the last few years will easily be capable of running VCDS

Although an internet connection is not required to use VCDS, it is required one time for registration and also for software and firmware updates, and I strongly recommend you have access to the internet to view the special procedures and help we and Ross-Tech provide free with this tool.
